Take Me Out to the Ballgame
Posted by Sabrina at 9:22 pm in Omaha

Friday night DH and I went to see the Omaha Royals take on the Salt Lake Bees. It’s a AAA minor league thing. It was a good time overall, tix were only $6 for general admission. There was some fun between inning entertainment for the fans too. Food was too expensive for a ballpark. Sadly, the Bees stung the Royals 5-1. Ah, well, can’t win ‘em all.

Care for some stress with your unemployment?

Today we got a letter from the IRS. Que dark clouds and ominous music. And it was as bad as I feared. The letter said that we owed several thousands of dollars in taxes and fees. Because, you know, we have that lying around. However, it said the reason we owed it was because what we reported to the IRS and what DH’s side job reported to the IRS weren’t the same. We claimed $980 in 2006. And supposedly the side job reported he was paid $98,000. Hmm, a few decimal points off on that one, eh? After a couple of very stressful hours and a massive headache, we were able to find the 1099 form that indicated that DH indeed was only paid $980. Crisis averted. We hope. We need to send in the response form “with documentation” and hopefully all will be well. Except I don’t exactly trust the government. So we’ll see. Wish us luck.

Oh for crying out loud

DH and I were watching the mid season finale of Ghost Hunters tonight and what happens? The TV dies right in the middle of it. Dammit! Thank the Gods for Tivo, which I don’t think needs a TV to tape, just a cable hook up. I guess we’ll find out. We found one online we like and we’ll go tomorrow to get it. This kinda sucks, not really what we need to be spending our money on right now. On the flip side, ooooh shiny new TV!!!

An Update on my Dad
Posted by Sabrina at 11:46 pm in Hearth & Home

A few folks have asked me about him so I figured I’d post and update y’all. If you’ll remember, he had a fire about two months ago. Since then the house hasn’t been habitable. The insurance company took awhile to get things moving and now my dad is stalling things. Basically he’s not sure if he wants to rebuild or knock it down and start over. Seems like he changes his mind a lot. He’s been renting out a house in town until the house is fixed (or whatever). The property is on the Chain O’ Lakes, and if you’ve been watching the news, the area has has some flooding problems. When I talked to my dad the other day he said that the water is up, but not as high as it was last year. So he’s OK for now. I’ve never seen the water get very close to his house so I don’t think he’d need to worry. Anyway, that’s the update on him. Not much to report!

Blog Updates
Posted by Sabrina at 11:36 am in Bloggy Stuff

First off, you can see that I changed the theme. This is kinda cute, right? :)

Second, I upgraded to the newest version of WordPress. I’ve been meaning to do that for awhile and my host pretty much made me do it now so fine, it’s done. I hadn’t looked at new themes because I wasn’t sure if they’d be compatible with my old version, but now it’s done and I can use themes again without worry. Yay for that.

Yup We’re Here
Posted by Sabrina at 1:58 pm in Omaha

Been in Omaha about a week and a half. Been kinda busy so I haven’t updated my blog here. So far, we’re liking it. We’re a lot closer to things than we were in Illinois so that’s a plus. We went to the Taste of Omaha on Saturday. It was OK. They should hold that event on FLAT surface. Eating while climbing hills isn’t a good thing. It was pretty though, near the riverfront. It was hot, but there was a good wind so it was bearable. We’ve had some severe weather since we’ve been here. Luckily we haven’t had any damage in our neighborhood. We had two tornados early Sunday morning, but neither were in our area. No one was seriously hurt but there’s been some property damage. The move went OK. We’re still unpacking and organizing. Still looking for jobs. Wish us luck on that front. I’ll post apartment pix once I can take some that don’t show the place being a total mess. Hobbs is adjusting just fine. He spent the first day or so exploring and figuring things out. Now he’s back on a regular napping schedule.

All Good Things…
Posted by Sabrina at 2:50 pm in Omaha, Work

Today is my last day at my company. Wow. Ten years. Hmm.

So after I leave today I won’t have internet until we get it set up in Omaha. This is my last post as an Illinois resident. Wish us luck and good driving weather!

Never Say Never
Posted by Sabrina at 3:30 pm in General

I always said I would never get another new car and I’d never go back to a 4 cyl again. Today I did both. I bought a brand new, 2009 Toyota Corolla. Gas was just flipping killing me. Having an SUV is nice, but we don’t use it enough to haul things to make it worth the extra money I’m spending in gas. So here she is! I haven’t named her yet.
